What does it really mean to blend with Spirit?
Answer
Blending describes a change in the experience of mediumistic participation.
Impressions may become less isolated. Characteristics can remain coherent across several perceptions. Expression may continue without the medium repeatedly stopping to examine each individual element before the next one appears.
The medium remains present throughout.
Individuality remains.
Blending therefore does not need to be understood as two minds literally joining together. It is a useful word for an experience in which mediumistic communication may become more sustained through the human form.
Introduction
Early mediumship can feel remarkably piece-by-piece.
An image appears.
Then nothing.
A word follows.
A sensation becomes noticeable.
The medium pauses.
Another impression emerges.
Each piece may seem to stand on its own.
This can make communication feel as though it must be assembled one fragment at a time.
With experience, something different may occasionally become noticeable.
One impression appears to carry into another.
A characteristic introduced through an image is echoed in an emotion.
A word gives context to a sensation.
Several elements seem to belong to the same developing thread.
Expression continues before the medium has mentally completed an assessment of every individual piece.
The experience feels less segmented.
Mediums often describe this as blending.
The word can be useful.
The explanation attached to it requires care.
Blending is sometimes taught as though the mind of a Spirit communicator gradually enters into, joins with, or overlaps the mind of the medium.
That explanation may correspond with how the experience feels.
It should not automatically be treated as a literal description of what is occurring.
At this stage of development, we do not need to construct an unseen mechanism in order to understand what the medium can actually observe.
Something has changed in the experience.
There is greater continuity.
That is enough to begin.
